  • Water (H₂O): Organic or Inorganic? A Clear Explanation
H₂O, which is the chemical formula for water, is an inorganic compound. Here's why:

    * Organic compounds are defined as compounds that contain carbon (C) atoms bonded to hydrogen (H) atoms, and often include other elements like oxygen (O), nitrogen (N), sulfur (S), and phosphorus (P).

    * Inorganic compounds are all other compounds, meaning they don't fit the definition of an organic compound.

Since water (H₂O) only contains hydrogen and oxygen, it does not meet the criteria for an organic compound.
