  • K+ Ion: Understanding Hydrophilic Properties & Water Interactions
K+ (potassium ion) is hydrophilic. Here's why:

    * Ionic Nature: K+ is an ion, meaning it carries a positive charge. Ions are strongly attracted to water molecules, which have a polar structure with a partial negative charge on the oxygen atom.

    * Polar Interactions: The positive charge on K+ forms strong electrostatic interactions with the negative poles of water molecules, leading to hydration.

    * Solubility: K+ ions readily dissolve in water, further demonstrating their hydrophilic nature.

Hydrophobic substances, on the other hand, are repelled by water and tend to be non-polar. Examples include oils and fats.
