  • Photosynthesis: The Role of Oxygen as a Byproduct
Oxygen is not used in photosynthesis. It is actually a byproduct of photosynthesis.

    Here's how it works:

    1. Photosynthesis uses carbon dioxide (CO2) and water (H2O) as its inputs.

    2. Sunlight provides the energy to split water molecules.

    3. This splitting process releases oxygen (O2) as a waste product.

    4. The hydrogen atoms from the water molecules are combined with carbon dioxide to create glucose (a sugar) and other organic molecules.

So, the oxygen released during photosynthesis is a result of the process, not an ingredient used in it.
