  • Freshwater vs. Saltwater: Understanding Density and Weight
    Fresh water is lighter than salt water.

    Here's why:

    * Saltwater has dissolved salts in it, which add mass and density to the water.

    * Freshwater lacks these dissolved salts, making it less dense.

    Density is a measure of how much mass is packed into a given volume. Since saltwater has more mass in the same volume, it is denser and therefore heavier than freshwater.
