  • Cake: Mixture or Compound? Understanding the Difference
    Cake is a mixture. Here's why:

    * Mixtures are combinations of two or more substances that are not chemically bonded. The substances in a mixture retain their individual properties.

    * Compounds are formed when two or more elements chemically combine in a fixed ratio. The resulting compound has properties different from the original elements.

    In a cake, you can identify the individual ingredients:

    * Flour

    * Sugar

    * Eggs

    * Butter

    * Baking powder

    * Etc.

    These ingredients are not chemically bonded together; they are simply mixed. You can still separate the ingredients from a cake using physical methods like picking out the raisins or filtering out the sugar.

    Therefore, cake is a mixture, not a compound.
