  • pH Changes After Mixing with Pancreatic Juice: Understanding Alkalinity
Pancreatic juice is alkaline (basic) with a pH of 7.5 to 8.0. This means that the pH of a mixture after being mixed with pancreatic juice will be higher (more basic) than the original mixture's pH.

    Here's why:

    * Pancreatic juice contains bicarbonate ions (HCO3-): Bicarbonate ions are alkaline and help neutralize the acidic chyme (partially digested food) coming from the stomach.

    * Neutralization: The alkaline pancreatic juice reacts with the acidic chyme, increasing the pH of the overall mixture.

Therefore, the resulting mixture after mixing with pancreatic juice will be more alkaline (basic) than the original mixture.

Keep in mind that the exact pH of the final mixture will depend on the initial pH of the mixture and the volume of pancreatic juice added.
