  • Aldehydes: Understanding Saturation and Unsaturation
    Aldehydes are unsaturated compounds.

    Here's why:

    * Saturated compounds have only single bonds between carbon atoms.

    * Unsaturated compounds have at least one double or triple bond between carbon atoms.

Aldehydes contain a carbonyl group (C=O) which is a double bond between carbon and oxygen. This double bond makes the aldehyde unsaturated.
