  • Understanding the Blue-Black Color Change in Iodine Experiments
The solutions turned iodine blue-black at the start of the experiment because of the reaction between iodine and starch. Iodine reacts with starch to form a complex called amylose-iodine, which is responsible for the blue-black color. This reaction is used as a qualitative test for starch in the presence of iodine.
