  • Potassium Hydroxide Synthesis: Reaction of Calcium Hydroxide & Potassium Sulfate
Mixing calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)2) with potassium sulfate (K2SO4) does not result in the formation of potassium hydroxide (KOH). The reaction between calcium hydroxide and potassium sulfate forms calcium sulfate (CaSO4) and potassium hydroxide. Calcium sulfate is relatively insoluble, so it precipitates out of the solution, while potassium hydroxide remains in solution. The chemical equation for this reaction is:

    Ca(OH)2 + K2SO4 → CaSO4 (s) + 2KOH (aq)
