  • Calcium Ion Electron Configuration: Which Element Matches?
The electron configuration of a calcium ion is 2, 8, 8. This is the same electron configuration as the element argon. Argon is a noble gas and is located in group 18 of the periodic table. Calcium is located in group 2 of the periodic table and is considered to be an alkaline earth metal. When calcium loses its two outermost electrons, it becomes a calcium ion with the same electron configuration as argon.
