    Ammonium is a positively charged polyatomic ion with the formula NH4+.

    It is formed by the protonation of ammonia (NH3) and is a common cation in many inorganic compounds.

    It also exist as a salt, such as ammonium chloride (NH4Cl), ammonium nitrate (NH4NO3), and ammonium sulfate ((NH4)2SO4).

    It is a colorless gas with a pungent odor and is highly soluble in water.

    It is used in the production of fertilizers, explosives, and as a cleaning agent.
