The transfer of heat that takes place because of the density difference in fluids is called natural convection. Natural convection occurs when a heated fluid expands, becoming less dense than the surrounding cooler fluid. This difference in density creates buoyancy forces, which cause the heated fluid to rise and displace the cooler fluid. The cooler fluid then sinks, and the cycle repeats.
