  • Oxygen: The Life-Giving Gas Produced by Photosynthesis
The gas used by both plants and animals that is a product of photosynthesis is oxygen (O2). During photosynthesis, plants use sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide to produce glucose and oxygen. The oxygen produced as a byproduct of photosynthesis is released into the atmosphere, where it is utilized by both plants and animals for respiration, the process by which living organisms convert food into energy.
