  • Understanding Mixtures in the Human Body: Colloids & Suspensions
    1. Colloids: Colloids are mixtures in which one substance is dispersed throughout another in the form of very small particles. Some examples of colloids in the human body include blood, which contains red and white blood cells dispersed in plasma, and mucus, which contains proteins and mucins dispersed in water.

    2. Suspensions: Suspensions are mixtures in which one substance is dispersed throughout another in the form of larger particles that do not settle out over time. An example of a suspension in the human body is urine, which contains solid particles such as salts and pigments dispersed in water.

    3. Solutions: Solutions are mixtures in which one substance is dissolved in another, forming a homogeneous mixture. Some examples of solutions in the human body include saliva, which contains dissolved salts and proteins, and tears, which contain dissolved salts and proteins.
