  • Milk Souring: Chemical Reaction or Physical Change? - Chemistry Explained
When milk sours, it undergoes a chemical change. The bacteria present in milk convert the lactose (a sugar) into lactic acid. This change in the chemical composition of the milk causes it to become sour. The process of souring milk is an example of fermentation.
