  • Chemical Reactions: Why Not All Collisions Produce Products?
Not all collisions between reactant molecules lead to product formation. In fact, most collisions are elastic, meaning that the molecules bounce off of each other without any reaction occurring. For a reaction to occur, the colliding molecules must have enough energy to overcome the activation energy barrier, which is the minimum amount of energy required for a reaction to take place. If the molecules do not have enough energy, they will simply bounce off of each other and no reaction will occur.
