Beryllium reacts with oxygen to form beryllium oxide (BeO). Beryllium oxide is a white, ceramic-like material that is used in a variety of applications, including as a high-temperature insulator, a catalyst, and an abrasive. Beryllium oxide is also used in the production of beryllium metal.
