  • Iodine and Water: Homogeneous or Heterogeneous? | Chemistry Explained
Iodine and water form a heterogeneous mixture. Iodine is a solid at room temperature, while water is a liquid. When iodine is added to water, it does not dissolve completely and forms a suspension. This means that the iodine particles are dispersed throughout the water but are not evenly distributed. The mixture can be distinguished into two phases: solid iodine and liquid water.
