  • Ionic Bonding: Electron Transfer and Formation of Ionic Compounds
In ionic bonding, electrons in a matrix of positively charged atoms, called metal ions, are transferred to negatively charged ions, known as non-metal ions. This electron transfer results in the formation of an ionic compound, wherein the metal ions and non-metal ions are held together by strong electrostatic forces of attraction.
