    All compounds have in common:

    - They are composed of two or more elements chemically combined in fixed proportions by mass.

    - They have a characteristic chemical composition that cannot be changed by physical means alone.

    - They have properties and characteristics that are different from those of their constituent elements. Examples of compounds include water (H2O), carbon dioxide (CO2), and sodium chloride (NaCl).
