The shared electrons are held in a region of high electron density between the nuclei of the atoms. Covalent bonds are typically formed between non-metals and result in the formation of molecules. For example, in the water molecule (H2O), the two hydrogen atoms and the oxygen atom are held together by covalent bonds.

    2. Ionic Bonding:

    - Ionic bonding occurs when there is a complete transfer of electrons from one atom to another, resulting in the formation of positively charged ions (cations) and negatively charged ions (anions). The electrostatic attraction between the oppositely charged ions holds the ionic compound together. Ionic bonds are typically formed between a metal and a non-metal. For example, in sodium chloride (NaCl), sodium loses an electron to chlorine, resulting in the formation of Na+ and Cl- ions, which are held together by ionic bonds.

    3. Metallic Bonding:

    - Metallic bonding is a type of chemical bonding that occurs between metal atoms. In metallic bonding, the outermost electrons of the metal atoms are delocalized and free to move throughout the entire lattice of metal atoms. This "sea" of delocalized electrons holds the metal atoms together. Metallic bonds are responsible for the characteristic properties of metals, such as high electrical and thermal conductivity, malleability, and ductility.

    In summary, while covalent attraction is a significant type of chemical bonding that holds atoms together in molecules, it is not the only type of attraction. Ionic bonding and metallic bonding are also important types of chemical bonds that hold atoms together in different types of compounds.
