Sodium oxide is a white, deliquescent solid with the formula Na2O. It is produced by the combustion of sodium in oxygen or by the reaction of sodium hydroxide with carbon dioxide. Sodium oxide is used in the manufacture of glass, ceramics, and soaps. It is also used as a flux in metallurgy and as an additive in food and water treatment.
