  • Understanding the Yellow Color in Water Electrolysis: Causes & Explanation
In the electrolysis of water experiment, the test tube turns yellow due to the formation of hydrogen gas. When an electric current passes through water, it causes the water molecules to split into hydrogen and oxygen gas. The hydrogen gas produced at the cathode (negative electrode) is highly flammable and can easily ignite to form a small flame that appears yellow in colour.
