  • Sodium Silicate (Water Glass): Properties, Uses & Applications
    Sodium silicate, also known as water glass or soluble glass, is a chemical compound with the formula Na2SiO3. It is a white or colorless solid that is soluble in water. Sodium silicate is produced by melting sand (silicon dioxide) with sodium carbonate (soda ash) at high temperatures.

    Sodium silicate is used in a variety of applications, including:

    * As a detergent builder in laundry detergents.

    * As a water softener.

    * As a binder in adhesives, paints, and ceramics.

    * As a flux in metallurgy.

    * As a corrosion inhibitor.

    * As a fire retardant.

    Sodium silicate is generally considered to be safe for use, but it can cause skin and eye irritation. It is also important to note that sodium silicate is not edible.
