  • Sublimation: Understanding the Solid-to-Gas Phase Change
Sublimation is a change of state from solid directly to gas. This means that the solid does not melt into a liquid first, but instead changes directly into a gas. This can happen when the temperature and pressure of the solid are high enough, or when the solid is exposed to a low-pressure environment. For example, dry ice (solid carbon dioxide) sublimes at atmospheric pressure when the temperature is above -78.5 °C.
