The periodic table of elements is a tabular arrangement of the chemical elements, organized on the basis of their atomic number, electron configuration, and recurring chemical properties. The table has been arranged so that elements with similar properties are grouped together. The periodic table was first published by Dmitri Mendeleev in 1869, and it has been continuously updated and expanded ever since. Mendeleev is therefore considered the "father" of the periodic table.
