  • Neutrinos and the Mystery of Matter-Antimatter Asymmetry
Neutrinos might be able to help us understand the difference between matter and antimatter. Scientists believe that when the universe began, there was an equal amount of matter and antimatter. But for some reason, matter became more common than antimatter. This is known as the matter-antimatter asymmetry.

Neutrinos could play a role in the matter-antimatter asymmetry because they are their own antiparticles. This means that a neutrino can turn into an antineutrino, and an antineutrino can turn into a neutrino. If there were more neutrinos than antineutrinos in the early universe, then this could have led to the matter-antimatter asymmetry.

Scientists are studying neutrinos to try to learn more about the matter-antimatter asymmetry. They are also studying other possible explanations for the asymmetry, such as the decay of heavy particles or the influence of dark matter.
