  • Meiosis vs. Mitosis: Understanding the Cell Division Process
Two cell divisions occur in meiosis, not mitosis.

    Here's why:

    * Mitosis is a single division process that produces two daughter cells, each with the same number of chromosomes as the parent cell. This is how our bodies grow and repair tissues.

    * Meiosis is a two-division process (Meiosis I and Meiosis II) that produces four daughter cells, each with half the number of chromosomes as the parent cell. This is how sex cells (sperm and egg) are produced for sexual reproduction.
