  • Heterotrophs: Understanding Organisms That Consume Other Life
An organism that obtains energy by feeding on other organisms is called a heterotroph.

    Here's why:

    * Hetero means "other" and troph means "nourishment".

    * Heterotrophs cannot produce their own food like plants (autotrophs) do through photosynthesis.

    * They rely on consuming other organisms, whether they are plants, animals, or even other heterotrophs, to obtain the energy they need to survive.
