  • Chloroplasts: The Powerhouses of Plant Photosynthesis
The structures in plant cells that capture light energy to produce food are called chloroplasts.

    Here's why:

    * Chloroplasts are organelles found in plant cells (and some algae) that contain the green pigment chlorophyll.

    * Chlorophyll absorbs light energy, specifically in the red and blue wavelengths of the visible spectrum.

    * This captured light energy is then used in the process of photosynthesis to convert carbon dioxide and water into glucose (sugar) and oxygen. This glucose is the plant's food source.

So, chloroplasts are essentially the solar panels of plant cells, enabling them to harness sunlight and create their own energy.
