  • Glucose Production: Photosynthesis & Gluconeogenesis Explained
    Glucose is created in two main places:

    1. Plants during Photosynthesis:

    * Location: Chloroplasts within plant cells.

    * Process: Plants use sunlight, carbon dioxide, and water to create glucose through a process called photosynthesis.

    2. The Liver (in animals):

    * Location: Liver cells (hepatocytes).

    * Process: The liver can create glucose from other sources like glycogen (stored glucose), amino acids (from protein), and glycerol (from fats). This process is called gluconeogenesis. This is particularly important when blood sugar levels are low, like during fasting.

    Therefore, glucose is primarily created through photosynthesis in plants and gluconeogenesis in animal livers.
