  • Robert Hooke: The Scientist Who Coined the Term 'Cell'
The word "cell" in science was coined by Robert Hooke in 1665.

He was looking at a thin slice of cork under a microscope and observed small, box-like compartments that reminded him of the cells of a monastery. He named these compartments "cells" and his discovery was a major breakthrough in our understanding of living organisms.
