  • DNA Replication: The Essential Pre-Division Step for Cells
The process that MUST happen in the parent cell before it divides is DNA replication.

    Here's why:

    * Ensuring genetic continuity: DNA replication creates an identical copy of the cell's DNA. This ensures that each daughter cell receives a complete and accurate set of genetic instructions. Without replication, daughter cells would have incomplete or incorrect DNA, leading to malfunctions and potentially death.

    * Maintaining chromosome number: DNA replication doubles the amount of DNA in the cell. This is essential for cell division as it allows each daughter cell to receive the correct number of chromosomes.

While other processes are important for cell division, like the production of organelles and cell growth, DNA replication is the absolute prerequisite. Without it, cell division cannot occur.
