  • Understanding Homozygous Genes: Definition & Examples
An organism possessing two identical genes for a trait is said to be homozygous for that trait.

    Here's why:

    * Homozygous means "having the same alleles" (alleles are different versions of a gene).

    * Heterozygous means "having different alleles".

So, if an organism has two identical alleles for a specific gene, it's homozygous for that trait.
