  • Meiosis in Body Cells: Understanding Germ Cell Division
The body cells that undergo meiosis are germ cells, also known as gametes.

    Here's why:

    * Meiosis is a specialized type of cell division that reduces the number of chromosomes in a cell by half. This is essential for sexual reproduction.

    * Germ cells are the cells that will eventually develop into sperm in males and eggs in females.

    * Sperm and egg are the gametes, which fuse during fertilization to create a new individual.

Other body cells (somatic cells) undergo mitosis, which is a process of cell division that produces two identical daughter cells.
