  • Robert Hooke: The Scientist Who Coined the Term 'Cell'
The scientist who gave the name "cells" to the structures he viewed was Robert Hooke.

In 1665, Hooke used a primitive microscope to examine a thin slice of cork. He observed small, box-like compartments that reminded him of the cells in a monastery. He coined the term "cells" to describe these structures, although he didn't realize that they were the basic building blocks of living organisms.
