1. Epithelial tissue: This tissue covers the surfaces of the body, lines cavities and organs, and forms glands. It acts as a barrier, protects underlying tissues, and helps in absorption, secretion, and excretion.
2. Connective tissue: This tissue provides support, protection, and insulation for the body. It includes a variety of cells embedded in a matrix of fibers and ground substance. Examples include bone, cartilage, blood, and adipose tissue.
3. Muscle tissue: This tissue is responsible for movement. It is made up of specialized cells called muscle fibers that can contract and relax. There are three types of muscle tissue: skeletal muscle, smooth muscle, and cardiac muscle.
4. Nervous tissue: This tissue is responsible for communication and coordination within the body. It is made up of neurons (nerve cells) and supporting cells called glial cells. Nervous tissue transmits information throughout the body in the form of electrical signals.
