  • Understanding Organ Systems: How They Work Together
Organs working together that carry out major body functions are called organ systems.

    Here are some examples:

    * Digestive system: Includes the mouth, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, and rectum. It breaks down food and absorbs nutrients.

    * Respiratory system: Includes the nose, pharynx, larynx, trachea, bronchi, and lungs. It takes in oxygen and releases carbon dioxide.

    * Circulatory system: Includes the heart, blood vessels, and blood. It transports oxygen, nutrients, and waste throughout the body.

    * Nervous system: Includes the brain, spinal cord, and nerves. It receives and processes information, and controls bodily functions.

Each organ system plays a vital role in keeping the body functioning properly.
