  • Neurons and Neuroglia: The Building Blocks of Nervous Tissue
Nervous tissue is composed of cells called neurons and neuroglia.

    * Neurons are the functional units of the nervous system, responsible for transmitting electrical signals. They have a unique structure that allows them to communicate with other neurons and with muscle and gland cells.

    * Neuroglia are non-neuronal cells that provide support and protection to neurons. They are also involved in the formation of myelin, which insulates axons and speeds up signal transmission.

So, while neurons are the most famous components of nervous tissue, neuroglia play a crucial role in ensuring the proper function of the nervous system.
