  • Ribosomes: The Protein Factories of the Cell - How They Work
The organelle in the cytoplasm that uses translation to manufacture proteins for use by the cell is the ribosome.

    Here's why:

    * Translation: This is the process of converting the genetic code in mRNA (messenger RNA) into a chain of amino acids, which then fold into a functional protein.

    * Ribosomes: These are complex molecular machines composed of ribosomal RNA (rRNA) and proteins. They bind to mRNA and use it as a template to assemble amino acids into a polypeptide chain.

While the nucleus contains the DNA that codes for proteins, it's the ribosomes in the cytoplasm that actually perform the protein synthesis through translation.
