  • Neutrophils: The First Responders to Bacterial Infections - Understanding Immune Response
The first phagocytic cells to arrive at the site of a bacterial infection are neutrophils.

    Here's why:

    * Abundance: Neutrophils are the most abundant type of white blood cell in the body.

    * Rapid Response: They are quickly recruited to the site of infection by chemoattractants released by the bacteria and damaged tissues.

    * Phagocytic Activity: Neutrophils are highly efficient phagocytes, engulfing and destroying bacteria.

While other phagocytic cells like macrophages also play important roles in fighting infection, neutrophils are the first responders and critical for controlling the initial stages of bacterial invasion.
