  • Cells: The Fundamental Unit of Life - Unicellular & Multicellular Organisms
The building block of both unicellular and multicellular organisms is the cell.

    * Unicellular organisms are made up of a single cell that carries out all the functions necessary for life. Examples include bacteria, amoebas, and yeast.

    * Multicellular organisms are made up of many cells that work together to form tissues, organs, and organ systems. Examples include plants, animals, and fungi.

While the basic structure of a cell is similar across all life forms, the cells in multicellular organisms are specialized for specific functions, leading to greater complexity and diversity.
