  • Photosynthesis: How Plants Produce Glucose and Oxygen
    Glucose and oxygen are the products of photosynthesis.

    Photosynthesis is the process by which plants, algae, and some bacteria use sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide to create their own food (glucose) and release oxygen as a byproduct.

    The equation for photosynthesis is:

    6CO₂ + 6H₂O + Sunlight → C₆H₁₂O₆ + 6O₂

    * CO₂ is carbon dioxide

    * H₂O is water

    * Sunlight is the energy source

    * C₆H₁₂O₆ is glucose (sugar)

    * O₂ is oxygen
