  • Understanding Biological Organization: What is a Population?
    The level of organization of life that consists of many similar organisms is called a population.

    Here's a breakdown of the levels of organization:

    * Organism: A single living thing (e.g., a dog, a tree, a bacterium)

    * Population: A group of individuals of the same species living in the same area (e.g., all the dogs in a neighborhood, all the trees in a forest, all the bacteria in a petri dish)

    * Community: All the different populations of organisms living in a particular area (e.g., all the dogs, cats, squirrels, birds, and insects in a park)

    * Ecosystem: A community of organisms and their physical environment (e.g., a forest, a lake, a desert)

    * Biosphere: The part of Earth where life exists, including all of the ecosystems (e.g., the Earth's atmosphere, hydrosphere, and lithosphere)
