    The outer supportive structure of a plant cell is called the cell wall.

    Here's why it's important:

    * Support and Shape: The cell wall provides rigidity and structural support, giving the plant cell its shape. This is crucial for the plant to stand upright and maintain its form.

    * Protection: The cell wall acts as a barrier, protecting the delicate cell membrane and internal structures from damage.

    * Regulation of Water: It helps regulate the flow of water in and out of the cell, preventing it from bursting due to excessive water intake.

    * Communication: The cell wall allows for communication between adjacent cells through specialized channels called plasmodesmata.

    The cell wall is primarily made up of cellulose, a strong and complex carbohydrate. In addition to cellulose, other components like hemicellulose, pectin, and lignin can be found in the cell wall, giving it different properties depending on the plant species and cell type.
