Here's why:
* Light microscopes use visible light to illuminate and magnify specimens. They are relatively simple to use and can be used to observe living cells in their natural state.
* Electron microscopes (TEM and SEM) require specimens to be fixed, dehydrated, and often coated with metal. This process kills the cells. While they offer much higher magnification and resolution than light microscopes, they are not suitable for observing living cells.
