  • Robert Hooke: The Scientist Who Discovered Cells Under a Microscope
The scientist who first observed cells under a microscope was Robert Hooke.

In 1665, Hooke examined a thin slice of cork under a microscope and observed small, box-like compartments that he named "cells" because they reminded him of the small rooms monks lived in. While he wasn't the first to use a microscope, his observations were significant because they marked the beginning of cell theory.
