  • Amniotes: The First Land-Reproductive Vertebrates
The first organisms that did not require water for reproduction were amniotes.

    Here's why:

    * Amniotes are a group of vertebrates that includes reptiles, birds, and mammals.

    * Their defining characteristic is the amniotic egg, which contains a fluid-filled sac that provides a protective and nourishing environment for the developing embryo.

    * This adaptation allowed these organisms to reproduce on land, freeing them from the need for water for reproduction.

Before amniotes, most life on Earth was confined to water because the eggs of other organisms, like amphibians and fish, required a watery environment to survive.
