    A genetic material, specifically DNA, forms a chromosome that:

    * Carries genetic information: The DNA within a chromosome contains genes, which are the instructions for building and maintaining an organism.

    * Is tightly coiled and packaged: DNA is wound around proteins called histones to form a compact structure that can fit within the nucleus of a cell.

    * Is duplicated during cell division: Before a cell divides, the chromosomes are copied so that each daughter cell receives a complete set.

    * Determines an individual's traits: The specific genes present on chromosomes determine an individual's characteristics, like eye color, height, and susceptibility to certain diseases.

    * Can be passed on to offspring: During reproduction, chromosomes are passed from parents to offspring, carrying the genetic information that determines the offspring's traits.

    Essentially, chromosomes are the organized packages of DNA that hold the blueprint for life.
