  • Understanding Vascular Plant Systems: Roots, Shoots & Vascular Tissues
The three main systems that make up vascular plants are:

    1. The Root System: This system anchors the plant in the ground, absorbs water and nutrients from the soil, and stores food.

    2. The Shoot System: This system includes the stem, leaves, and flowers (if present). It's responsible for photosynthesis, reproduction, and transporting water and nutrients throughout the plant.

    3. The Vascular System: This is the internal transportation network that connects the root and shoot systems. It consists of two types of tissues:

    * Xylem: Transports water and dissolved minerals upward from the roots to the rest of the plant.

    * Phloem: Transports sugars produced during photosynthesis from the leaves to other parts of the plant for growth and storage.

These three systems work together in a coordinated fashion to allow vascular plants to thrive in a wide range of environments.
